Statistical Consulting: IMS-StatLab

What is IMS-StatLab?

modern statistics

In the course of the information age the conception of statistics has rapidly changed. The basic objective of modern statistics is to extract specific and purposive information from data, i.e. from economic market studies, sociological surveys, scientific measuring series or highly correlated data from the DNA analysis.

development of new methods

In recent years plenty of auxiliary disciplines and techniques have been developed from these data structures, which makes it hardly possible for a single person to keep up with the development. Therefore, statistical problems often cannot be adequately approached since the contact person may be overburdened or unskilled to solve a particular problem. In many cases the already existing methods of data analysis have to be adapted or completely new methods have to be developed by experts.

To meet the need, IMS-StatLab offers basis for everybody interested from the fields of economy and administration as well as universities to deal with statistical problems quickly and efficiently. It is essential that all partners should equally benefit from a project.

unbureaucratic and
purposeful

Consequently, IMS-StatLab was founded by Prof. Dr. Axel Munk and his colleagues as a statistical advisory centre to provide you with unbureaucratic and purposeful consulting in the field of statistics and coordinate cooperation between experts in statistics and economists, administrative bodies and universities.

training and further education

This may include trainee posts for students who specialise in statistics, drawing up expertises, statistical software consulting, developing problem-specific statistical methodology or software engineering. Furthermore, IMS-StatLab offers training courses and further education for industrial statisticians.

interdisciplinary and
overregional

Economists can take this unique opportunity to get highly competent and progressive solutions to specific problems. This is guaranteed by the overregional and interdisciplinary conception of IMS-StatLab. Statistical problems frequently cannot be considered in isolation. In such cases we cooperate with, i.e. computer scientists or experts on applied mathematics.

How does IMS-StatLab operate?

First, a partner who needs competent statistical consulting gets in touch with the IMS-StatLab (see contact details below). There, in a confidential talk, a project profile is drawn up in which goal setting, project duration and the relevant problems are identified.

Second, a StatLab assistant or a university partner who has been selected together according to different criteria can be contacted. It can also be a team of different cooperative partners involved in the subsequent development of a particular project who are responsible for specific tasks.
